imageWe are writing to provide our opinion of the above firm. We have worked with Gerhard Hoppenheit, (and with his assistant and wife, Sharon Hoppenheit), on several occasions. They were engaged by the owners in the role of construction managers, and, in one case, cost consultants only. Our most recent project was a heritage condominium project in Winnipeg, the "Fairchild Loft Condominiums", (see Gallery 1) which involved the $7.1 M exterior restoration, 50-unit interior development and main floor commercial development of a six-storey warehouse building in Winnipeg's historic exchange district. Gerhard has proven to be extremely competent in the role, combining expertise with energy and commitment to the project. He is always ready and willing to even go beyond his stipulated scope to help out where needed in other aspects of the project. As a manager, he is prompt and pro-active in dealing with trades and suppliers, and not shy to take a hard line when necessary. He is knowledgeable with respect to building construction, building economics and the trade environment. He handles documentation diligently and communicates effectively. His assistant, Sharon, brings a similar energy and commitment to the task at hand, and functions effectively in supporting Gerhard and temporarily standing in for him if necessary. I have no real negative comments to make about GWHCMS LTD. and recommend their inclusion in any project team.

Dominion Construction
GWH Consulting Services Ltd., under the leadership of Gerhard Hoppenheit, has been providing services to our Manitoba / NW Ontario division, on a contract basis for the last ten months. The primary duties performed by Gerhard and GWH Consulting Services were project management, estimating and business development. These duties were all carried out in a professional manner. Estimates were performed with accuracy and were delivered on time. Gerhard has a good understanding of project management procedures and performed these duties in a professional manner. He maintained a good report with the sub-contractors on the projects he was in charge of. Gerhard interacted with our team in both a professional and social situations. We found him to conduct himself in a friendly and professional manner. He is well thought of by our team. His knowledge, experience and positive attitude will be missed. Based on my experience with Gerhard, I would recommend him and his consulting services for any construction related project management or costing project.

Syverson Monteyne Architecture Syverson Monteyne Architecture had the pleasure of working with Gerhard over the course of two years on renovations to the historic Fairchild Lofts Company Building in the Exchange District in downtown Winnipeg. Through the course of 2005 and 2006, we worked with Gerhard on a number of phases to the overall project, including the construction of a number of typical condominium show suites on the upper floors, the development of the rear terrace and parking lot, and the development of the main floor commercial space. As Construction Manager for the Fairchild Lofts Company, Gerhard was responsible for overall execution of the project, including the selection of consultants and trades, progress payments to all of the above, supervision of all construction work in the building, general issues of safety, and a 'mountain' of small project related tasks not directly tied to contracts of consultants and trades. At times during this period, there were hundreds of people working in the building, and it would be somewhat difficult to meet with Gerhard because his phone would not stop ringing, and people were constantly requiring his input. Amazingly, Gerhard managed to maintain a 'level head,' throughout this extremely busy time, and renovations to the building were completed on time, and to a very high building standard. I consulted frequently with Gerhard on the project during this time, and I found him to be very professional in his management style, extremely knowledgeable in his understanding of the construction industry, and above all, a gentleman and a fair person. Given the scope of the Fairchild Lofts renovations, and the extremely tight time frame, this project could have potentially turned into a 'nightmare' scenario. Under Gerhard's direction however, we all managed to complete the project still as respected colleagues and very proud of what we accomplished together as a team. My firm has not worked with Gerhard since, but I sincerely hope we have the opportunity to work together with him in the future. In my experience, he is a Construction Manager of the highest level, and I would trust him to oversee the execution of the most demanding and rigorous work.

Dominion Construction
This letter will confirm Mr. Gerhard Hoppenheit was employed by Dominion Construction Company Inc from February 2007 until February 2008 as Branch Manager of our Edmonton office. Originally from Winnipeg, Gerhard was to relocate to Edmonton, but for personal reasons he decided relocating to Edmonton would not suit his family. He has since agreed to join our Manitoba Division in Winnipeg. As Edmonton Branch Manager, Gerhard reported to the Senior Vice­President of the Alberta Division and was responsible for the management and overall performance of the Edmonton operation, including Business Development, Revenue and Profitability, Client and Stakeholder relationships and the development of our Edmonton Team. The Edmonton market was extremely active during Gerhard's tenure and required considerable adjustment compared to his experience in the Winnipeg market. Gerhard's extensive estimating background was a great asset in leading the Edmonton team's efforts in securing several new projects totaling in excess of $25mm of new work over the year. Gerhard was also very effective in hiring several new people, including project management staff and field supervisors, to complete the new work.  I very much enjoyed working with Gerhard. He is honest, straightforward and likes to get things done. Not having been a Branch Manager before and in a new and extremely active market put Gerhard in a very challenging situation. Gerhard proved to be a strong team player and was always willing to learn. His enthusiasm, decisive approach and commitment to success were real strengths that put him in good stead with his team and with the many new challenges he faced. I believe that Gerhard has grown significantly as a manager of people and as a manager of an independent business unit over the last year. Although we were disappointed to see Gerhard leave, we were pleased that he will continue his career with Dominion by joining our Winnipeg office.
